JI-1 Entertainment as a Gateway to Global Markets
In recent years, Japan’s entertainment industry has emerged as one of the country’s most closely watched sectors for global expansion. Beyond gaming, where Japan has long maintained a strong international presence, the global fan base for Japanese anime and manga has grown significantly. This momentum has become so strong that the Japanese government has set a target of expanding overseas revenue from the content industry to 20 trillion yen by 2033.
However, taking content global is not simply a matter of increasing its exposure overseas. At the same time, the growing global fan base for Japanese content has the potential to create significant opportunities for other Japanese industries as well.
In this session, we will explore winning strategies for taking Japanese entertainment global and the potential for collaboration with other industries. Joining the discussion are Mr. Yamamoto of Sony Music, who has been involved in YOASOBI’s global expansion; Mr. Feng of Toho, who is working to bring Japanese content such as The Human Vapor to international audiences; and Mr. Umezu, an expert in data analysis of Japan’s entertainment industry.
